chicken firsts, our courteousy : NONE
While the market traders association is trying to promote chicken consumption at the market, I as a Malaysian felt utterly disgusted at how we malaysians acted upon the free birds that was on the table for consumption. Especially for those at Malacca, all those free chicken pilled up on the table and all fears of bird flu are thrown out of the window. Those that were there rushed as though we had a famine in the country, We were not courteous at the table just as we are not courteous on the road. We became selfish and greedy people that one person pilled up their plates with 10 pieces of chicken. That within 10 minutes, nothing was left for those who were behind those first few that crowded the table. It was even more apparent that people "ta pau" by bringing plastic bags and filling it up to the brim for their extended family. The kiasu-ism was being so apparent that we aren't even remotely near to our neighbour down at the straits.
The next day, the same type of event was held at Penang. With their majority population being chinese and I though kiasu-ism was at its level best to compete with the Singaporeans, it was a timid affair with no rush whatsoever. People were even queing up for food not like our counter parts in Malacca.
I'm not belittling or being prejudice towards Malacca-nians because my best buddy is from Malacca. I'm just very disgusted by the fact that people rushed as though we had famine in the land. Or we are just very poor people that havent had even tasted chicken meat, even "ta-pau" for our extended family or "ta pau" to last us 3 square meals that day.I seriously do hope that those who rushed and pilled their plates up with 10 chicken or even "ta pau" a little too much are those who are needy or have no money to buy food and not just being greedy.
We Malaysians claim to be courteous people, but when it comes to free food at the table, we throw our courteousy out of the window. We claim to be a rising nation but with courteousy like that we ain't rising anywhere. Even the homeless in America don't rush that way... they lined up for food every evening at the charity food organisation to feed them. I'm not looking up towards America... but I just can't help to compare when we are always potrayed as courteous. Buck up people, we ain't going anywhere with that kind of attitude that is apparent when free food is available (or even how we use our public toilets for the matter)
Rising nation my ass !!!
